A simple, cheap wheel puller may just bend. Leave the nut on, and flush with the top of the crankshaft(keeps the flywheel from flying off when it pops loose). Put a ratchet on the nut, and wack it with the handle of a hammer. Now, I've 'played with only a handfull of outboards, but every one had a nut on top of the crankshaft, holding the flywheel on.

Is there not an inspection hole on top of the flywheel to clean and adjust the points? Just a quick search told me it's a '74 model and referenced these three sites for info. The bolt that comes up through the center of it is still there and appears to be a part of the flywheel itself but the diagrams don't show it that way.Ĭan somebody help me out here, PLEASE. There are no screws or bolts on top and I've been all the way around underneath with a flashlight and haven't found anything.

But in the mean time, does anyone here have any experience with this motor that could clue me in on how to get the flywheel off. I've checked through eBay a few times and found one but it's on a DVD that I guess I'm going to have to get and just print it out myself.

I called Sears Parts Direct today in hopes of acquiring an Owners Manual for this motor but no dice. I've taken off everything from the top down to that point. I've spent the last couple of days trying to figure out how to get the flywheel off so I can get to those electronics. I'm thinking that just maybe when the engine was assembled last time, maybe a ground wire didn't get so grounded. I've been through the parts images at Sears Parts Direct and it seems that this motor does in fact have points. Taking the suggestion of a couple of you guys I started breaking down the motor to get to the electronics under the hood. I'm having a problem with no spark to the spark plug.

Now to find a free manual so I don't have to drop a ton into this anchor.OK gang. I found this link and this gentlemen to be very helpful with carb kits as well: Now to figure out how to get all the crap off so I can have unfettered access to the carb to rebuild the sucker. The only downside of giving the motor to my friend was he sold the metal gas can so I'll have to spend a couple of $$ getting a new plastic can and a carb kit. Keep in mind the motor would get used for 1-2 weeks out of the year and was always run out of gas, fogged and put away for another year. When I went back to the lake this year, I got the engine back and will now embark on my journey of feeding the moneypit.ģ4 years of trouble free no maintenance use I can't complain too much about. Last year I had the fuel issue and gave the motor to a friend of mine and it sat for a year. The last time it was ran, water pees out and it ran fine. Re: 1974 Ted Williams 7.5HP Carb/Fuel Issues - Help requested Weight of a replacement motor is an issue since my Dad is 72 years old and can't lug anything more then 50 lbs to and from the boats we rent.

I don't mind paying a couple of bucks for replacement parts, and out of sentimental value, would like to fix this engine rather then buy a new 5-6 HP 4 stroke or used 2 stroke. The motor gets used for 1 week out of the year and lives inside during the winter. Would this be a needle/seat issue, or do these engines have a fuel pump to pull fuel from the remote tank? It's definately a fuel related issue, and before I dig into this to make the needed repairs, where do you all recommend I start? Spark and everything else is good.Īdditionally, besides some of the misc parts sears still has on hand, where is the best place to source the fuel related repair parts? Carb kits, etc. Once I stop pumping the bulb, it will die. It has given us zero issues since new until this year with zero maintenance other then changing the spark plug.Ĭurrently I can get the motor started but will only stay running if I pump the primer bulb on the fuel tank. My father is the original owner of a 1974 Ted Williams 7.5HP motor.
